Best of Glee: Season Three

Season 3 did have some redeeming qualities (some easier to spot than others) I've highlighted the Best of Season 3 for the benefit of the fans who can't be bothered to find it.

Lindsay Lohan's Guest Appearance
Guest stars (so long as their presence makes sense) are always a good idea especially if they are a rare occurrence and especially if they're character is tolerable. I love Mean Girls as much as the next person and even those who aren't familiar with her work will have their interest piqued with her media attention.

The Softer Side of Puck

We definitely got to see Puck's softer side this season. My guess is that his paternal attitude has finally developed. Or maybe he just matured. The combination of his tender feelings toward Beth and the way he crowned Becky prom queen with an empty beer box made for really touching moments that actually didn't feel forced. One of my favorite musical numbers of the season was Puck's performance of Mean (I'm a sucker for guys with guitars)  I think guys should do Taylor Swift songs more often. If it's not an improvement then we can all have a good laugh.

Dodgeball
Because dodgeball is awesome!

Quinn as a Badass
I'm glad someone other than Tina decided to have a fashion crisis. I think after all Quinn's been through she's entitled to become one of "The Skanks"

Rachel as Prom Queen

Soooo unrealistic but it's cute. It's the whole underdog- triumphing taken to the extreme. It shouldn't work but it does. I really liked seeing Santana and Quinn do the right thing for once. Also who doesn't love a happy ending? Finn and Rachel sharing the King/ Queen dance showed us how far things have come for the characters.

Quinn and Joe

I really liked this (non) couple. It developed Joe more than just a mop of hair (notice how in Season 4  without Quinn he fades into the background) and certainly spiced up physical therapy. But I think the writers developed amnesia because after Promasaurus they aren't mentioned again in relation to being a couple (let me know if I missed something here)

Santana's Plotline
I thought the show made a bit of a big deal out of Finn accidentally "outing" Santana. I mean, wasn't it kind of obvious when she walked down the hall holding hands with Brittany. Or did people just think she was showing Brittany how to get to the bathroom so she wouldn't get lost?

West Side Story

A musical is the perfect excuse to throw a bunch of songs into the mix that aren't related to Glee club. And any  Sondheim song tops Justin Bieber.
Karosky's Attempted Suicide
If I had to list my top five favorite Glee characters Karosky would probably be among them even though he hasn't had a musical number (can he sing?) I'm glad they didn't just forget about him after he got shot down by Kurt and I'm glad he did more than cry or act angry. I am not condoning suicide here (it's never the answer. EVER!) but an estimated 5 million Americans have attempted suicide and failed so there are many people out there who can empathize with Karosky's struggle (even though they may not share his exact reasons). Some people might accuse me of being a hypocrite because I condemned Glee for portraying a school shooting but am okay with a suicide attempt. The difference (besides the fact that this is so much more common) is that Glee executed this much more realistically. Glee also taught (or attempted to teach) that suicide just isn't the answer. With the school shooting the fact that so far Becky hasn't faced any consequences teaches a dangerous lesson.
Warblers
The rivalry between the Warblers and the New Directions was addicting. Besdies, guys in uniforms. 'Nuff said.
Quinn's Car Accident
Glee faced a lot of controversy for the car crash (especially the cliff hanger left) but I loved it. I think the cliffhanger ending was the best part and I'm glad it wasn't overdone with a lot of screaming. I also really liked the fact that the episode is named for the text Quinn sends to Rachel ("On My Way") The whole thing actually sent a chill up my spine. Besides car accidents are more frequent than we would like to think (even when they aren't caused by texting) There are some people who say that Quinn has been through enough but God doesn't evenly distribute burdens so I didn't find that particularly unrealistic. In fact I think Quinn was the perfect person for this plotline, though maybe they could have dragged it out a little longer.

Leave your comments and let me know what you think. I love feedback be it positive or negative but constructive. Either way I hoped you enjoyed this post and please check in again for my next one. I've noticed that people who aren't myself have been viewing my blog and I just have to say it's amazing. Please keep it up!
