Reality Show Challenge

I don't intend to get overly personal with this blog but I figured you should know the last few weeks have been really hard on me. My grandpa died, my anxiety disorder is through the roof and the track coach at my school was just killed this morning in an automobile accident. Life seems a bit on the rough side right now. So to cheer myself up I am going to do a Reality Show Challenge. I chose six reality shows. Here they are:

• The Bachelor Season 16
• 16 and Pregnant Season 4
• The Real Housewives of New Jersey Season 4
• Bad Girls Season 6
• Biggest Loser Season 14
• Beauty and the Geek Season 5

The reasons I chose the seasons I did have to do with how accessible they are online and whether or not I've seen any of the episodes already (I wanted to start this challenge without having seen any of the episodes already) 

How It Works: 

1. Watch the first (or second or third) episode of each show

2. Analyze how it best fits the Reality Show Criteria (see below)

3. The episode that bests fits the Criteria wins

4. The show that has the highest percentage of winning episodes wins!

(All right I used the word "win" way too much. And explained it very badly but once I start posting you'll get the idea)

Criteria 

Characters- The cast of characters need to have a wide array of personalities with dreams, quirks and a past that makes them unique. Stereotypes are a no-no. There also needs to be at least one character that I can stand behind and root for. And there needs to be at least one character that I want to send to Argentina in a coffin. 

Emotional Intensity-I need to feel the emotions behind the words. I need to connect with the dilemma. I need to empathize with the characters. There needs to be tears over something over than a pair of shoes. 

Authenticity- I know a lot of reality shows are scripted (hope I didn't burst your bubble) but the more genuine and less scripted the show appears the better. 

Conflict-There should be a wide array of conflicts- family, romantic, competitive and they should be played out in different ways without the usual screaming fights or backstabbing. 

Classy- The dictionary defines classy as of high class, rank, or grade; stylish; admirably smart; elegant.  This does not mean the characters have to be of high class or rank. It means the show keeps the drugs, backstabbing, sex, cheating and profanity to a minimum. For a reality show that's a tall order. This is probably the toughest criteria to meet.
